When most people think about the Las Vegas Strip, they picture giant luxury resorts like Bellagio, Wynn, or Caesars Palace. Then there’s the Flamingo.

The Flamingo doesn’t try to be the newest or the fanciest casino on the Strip. Instead, it leans into something that’s getting harder and harder to find in Las Vegas: personality.

I recently spent a night at Flamingo Las Vegas using a complimentary Caesars Rewards offer, and I honestly wasn’t expecting much. Most of my gambling happens at MGM properties or downtown on Fremont Street, so I was actually surprised Caesars sent me a comp in the first place.

I booked the cheapest room available, figured I’d have a decent place to sleep, and planned to spend most of my time exploring the Strip.

Instead, the trip started with one of my favorite Vegas traditions.

The $20 trick.

The $20 Trick Actually Worked

I checked into the Flamingo around 9 p.m., and the front desk was practically empty. No long lines. No chaos. Just a quick, friendly check-in.

I decided to try the famous $20 trick. If you’ve never heard of it, the idea is simple. You politely ask if there are any complimentary upgrades available while handing over a folded $20 with your ID and credit card.

Sometimes it works.

Sometimes it doesn’t.

This time it absolutely did.

Instead of the basic comp room I originally booked, I was upgraded to a one-bedroom suite overlooking the Las Vegas Strip.

Needless to say, that was a pretty incredible way to start the trip.

If you’re staying at Flamingo, it’s definitely worth trying. Just remember that upgrades always depend on availability, so don’t expect miracles during busy weekends or major events.

Flamingo Las Vegas Room Review: Clean, Comfortable, and Definitely Old Vegas

Let’s get something out of the way.

The Flamingo isn’t a luxury resort.

If you’re expecting ultra-modern rooms with cutting-edge technology and marble everything, this probably isn’t the hotel for you.

The suite definitely showed its age.

The furniture and décor felt older than many of the recently renovated Strip resorts, but here’s the thing…

It also felt clean.

I’d rather stay in an older room that’s well maintained than a flashy room that feels dirty.

The room had plenty of space to spread out, and because it was a suite, it actually felt like somewhere you’d want to spend time instead of just sleeping between gambling sessions.

The real star of the room was the view.

Looking out over the Las Vegas Strip at night never gets old, and having that view from a comp room felt like a huge win before I even stepped onto the casino floor.

Bed Comfort

I’d give the bed a 6 out of 10.

It wasn’t bad.

It wasn’t amazing.

I slept perfectly fine, but it’s not one of those hotel beds you’ll be thinking about weeks later.

Bathroom

The bathroom gets a 4 out of 10.

It worked.

The shower had great water pressure, which I always appreciate after spending an entire day walking the Strip, but it definitely showed its age.

If bathroom luxury is important to you, there are better options nearby.

Flamingo Casino Review

Walking into the Flamingo casino feels different than walking into places like Bellagio or Aria.

It feels…

Louder.

More chaotic.

More alive.

And honestly?

I loved it.

I’d rate the overall casino atmosphere an 8 out of 10.

The lighting, the layout, the constant energy, and the mix of tourists all combine to create a casino that feels like classic Las Vegas.

I’ve heard plenty of people complain about how smoky the casino is.

Hot take…

I actually think the smoke adds to the atmosphere.

Old Vegas casinos were smoky.

That’s just part of the experience.

If you’re extremely sensitive to cigarette smoke, it’s something you’ll want to consider before booking here.

For me, it actually made the casino feel more authentic.

Is Flamingo a Lucky Casino?

Not for me.

I never got that feeling where you sit down and think, “Tonight’s going to be my night.”

Some casinos just have that energy.

For whatever reason, Flamingo didn’t give me that feeling.

That doesn’t mean you can’t win there.

In fact, my wife Nikki hit a nice win of over $200 playing Huff N’ Even More Puff during our stay.

I’m pretty sure she gave it back later because…well…that’s Vegas.

What Games Did I Play?

Slots at Flamingo Las Vegas

I didn’t spend hours grinding at the tables during this trip.

Most of my time was spent playing slots.

My favorites were:

• Top Dollar
• Huff N’ Even More Puff

Both are games I always seem to gravitate toward whenever I find them.

Blackjack at Flamingo Las Vegas

This is where Flamingo loses a few points from me.

I’m primarily a blackjack player.

Unfortunately, I didn’t see many blackjack tables that made me want to sit down.

Most of what I found were blackjack variants like Free Bet Blackjack.

There’s nothing wrong with those games if you enjoy them, but I’m looking for traditional blackjack with player-friendly rules.

If stretching a bankroll is your goal, I’d honestly rather head downtown to Fremont Street or even over to Excalibur or Luxor, where lower-limit traditional blackjack is easier to find.

That’s why my blackjack rating is only 3 out of 10.

Flamingo Cocktail Service

The Cocktail Service Story That Still Makes Me Laugh

Every Vegas trip needs one story.

Here’s mine.

I had taken a break from losing money and walked over to stand next to Nikki while she was playing a slot machine.

A cocktail server came by.

She asked Nikki if she wanted anything.

Nikki ordered a drink.

I asked if I could get a beer.

The waitress looked at me and said she couldn’t bring me one because I wasn’t actively gambling.

I just kind of laughed.

Little did she know, I fully intended on sitting back down and playing again after getting the drink.

Instead…

She made me mad enough that I went back upstairs to the suite and enjoyed my evening there instead.

It wasn’t the end of the world, but it definitely knocked the service rating down.

For me, cocktail service gets a 2 out of 10 based on this experience.

Food at Flamingo Las Vegas

One thing I always enjoy is the Flamingo food court.

Is it overpriced?

Of course.

Everything on the Strip is.

Do I still buy the New York-style pizza almost every time?

Absolutely.

It’s one of those guilty pleasures that somehow tastes even better after you’ve spent a few hours wandering through casinos.

The Real Food Advantage

LINQ Promenade Access

The biggest advantage isn’t actually inside Flamingo.

It’s what’s right outside.

Step out the doors and you’re immediately connected to the LINQ Promenade.

This is one of my favorite areas on the Strip.

Within just a few minutes you can find casual restaurants, bars, desserts, live entertainment, shopping, and one of my favorite fast-food stops in Las Vegas.

In-N-Out Burger.

If I’m staying at Flamingo, there’s almost no chance I leave Vegas without making that walk at least once.

Location Is Flamingo’s Biggest Strength

If someone asked me to name Flamingo’s biggest selling point in one sentence, I’d say this:

You can walk almost everywhere.

You’re connected to the LINQ Promenade.

The Bellagio Fountains are right across the street.

Caesars Palace is next door.

Paris, Horseshoe, Harrah’s, and countless restaurants are all within easy walking distance.

If you’re flying into Las Vegas and don’t plan on renting a car, Flamingo is one of the easiest hotels to use as a home base.

You could spend an entire vacation here without ever feeling stuck.

Location earns a 9 out of 10 from me.

Who Should Stay at Flamingo?

I think Flamingo is perfect for:

• First-time Vegas visitors
• Couples
• People using Caesars Rewards comps
• Travelers who plan on walking the Strip
• Anyone who values location over luxury

If you care more about being in the middle of everything than having the newest room in Las Vegas, Flamingo is a great fit.

Who Should Skip Flamingo?

I’d probably look elsewhere if:

• You want luxury accommodations.
• You hate cigarette smoke.
• You’re looking for high-end blackjack conditions.
• You want the quietest hotel on the Strip.

Is Flamingo Worth Paying For?

This really comes down to price.

Personally, I’d happily stay here for under $75 per night before resort fees.

Once prices start climbing much higher, I’d begin looking at other options.

If Bellagio were only $40 more?

I’m booking Bellagio every single time.

That doesn’t mean Flamingo isn’t good.

It just means value matters.

My Honest Comparison

If I had to describe Flamingo in one sentence, it’d be this:

Flamingo is basically Circus Circus for adults…except it’s sitting in one of the best locations on the Strip.

It has that fun, slightly chaotic energy that reminds you you’re in Las Vegas.

Not polished.

Not perfect.

Just fun.

Would I Stay Again?

Probably.

Especially if Caesars sends me another comp offer.

The Flamingo isn’t trying to compete with the ultra-luxury resorts, and that’s perfectly fine. What it offers instead is something a lot of newer casinos can’t manufacture: character.

Between the old-school casino vibe, the incredible central location, easy access to the LINQ Promenade, and the chance that a simple $20 bill could land you in a Strip-view suite, I walked away impressed.

Would I make Flamingo my go-to place for blackjack?

No.

Would I choose Bellagio if the prices were nearly identical?

Absolutely.

But if you’re looking for a fun, affordable home base with classic Las Vegas energy and one of the best locations on the Strip, Flamingo is still a solid choice.

And if Caesars decides to send me another free room?

I’ll gladly give that $20 trick another shot.
